In the run up to exhibition season that hits us every spring and summer, we have to prepare properly. Money is spent on organising the stands, poster art, free things to give away, proper banners to display your company clearly. When putting all this together, if your budget was limitless, you could spend an incredible amount in total once it’s all in. People restrict their spend to what they can afford, and try and meet all the requirements. So where should you pull back. Well, one thing I would say, is that scrimping on the print in the short term could put you out in the long haul.
A mistake that Captain Humphries might have made was when recruiting for his maiden voyage, rather than hire people to help, or pay a crier to walk through the town shouting that he was looking for sailors to join him, perhaps he decided to save the money and do it all himself. He certainly saved money, but what about the knock on effect? Maybe it took him a week to get all his sailors together, for whilst he was a good Captain, I doubt he was a good town crier. He lost a week, which meant having to leave a week later. If he had left a week earlier, he would have arrived earlier and finished his business sooner, which would have meant he could trade a week extra when getting back. He lost out on a weeks trade, by trying to save on the town crier.
Whatever you are selling, whether it is something tangible like hair restoration, or something people do like team building events, make sure you advertise it properly at the exhibitions. You are only there for a limited amount of time, so you have to make an impression and make it count. Don’t loose time like the Captain, make sure that you have good artwork created. When you have it printed, go for something decent like proper roller banners and stands. When you buy your banner stands, make sure that you spend the money and use a good company that is going to provide you with good quality kit, because the quality of what you are offering will be judged on that.
