Airports are boring

When I travel, I prefer to be on the ground or at sea. I love train journeys, and I love travelling by ship. I think when you fly, you get to your destination so fast that it never really feels like you have arrived somewhere new. Also, you miss out on incredible scenery. On a train or a boat, often the journeys can be long, but you can walk around and entertain yourself and, of course, you get to see the land as you pass it. Getting on a ship or a train is also far more relaxing than getting on an Airplane.

You don’t have to arrive hours in advance to get on a train, nor do you go through obnoxious security checks where they think that running watches are some kind of terrorist appliance. You can use your phones and Laptops if you want and, you can walk around. Train and ships are rarely delayed as a bonus.

However, I understand that from time to time, flying is necessary. For example, when I came to Canada originally, I had to fly, as getting a ship over would cost me a fortune and take a long time. The flight was out of Manchester and obviously international, so I arrived at the airport around three hours before the take off.

Once I got their I was told the flight would be delayed by around four hours. I could not believe it. I ate a little and sat around for the entire 7 hours before eventually getting on the plane, only to be told the flight would be delayed one more hour.

However, that story leads me to my point. Flights are boring, waiting in an airport is also boring. With inevitable delays, surely the airports should do something so people can pass the time easier. Offer a room with beds, or a small cinema complex or something along those lines. Something needs to be done. Flying is convenient because you can get anywhere in the shortest amount of time…but boy do you have to pay for that convenience.
