The Croatian Coast

The Croatian Coast

The thrill seekers have always been looking not only for the extreme experience, but also for a combination with the beauty of nature. This is the reason why the most beautiful places are also the top destinations for thrill seekers. A country that is famous exactly for that is Croatia – the Balkan country, situated on the east coast of Adriatic Sea offers not only a vacation full of adrenaline-rising events, but also perfect opportunities to explore the beauty of Eastern Europe.
The perfect place to be in Croatia is the town of Dubrovnik. Situated on the west coast of the country, this place is an amazing spot for thrill seekers during the summer. Just pick up the summer sport that you adore and enjoy – surfing, windsurfing, water skiing, diving – these sport opportunities will really make your stay unforgettable (I personally can’t help but pick up the lastest running gadgets before I leave and then set off running around the town). In addition, from Dubrovnik you can always have a trip to the nearby islands and see the beauty of the Adriatic.
As a common truth, just enjoying sports during the day is not enough for the real thrill seeker – he would seize any available opportunity to do something more than that. This is why again Dubrovnik is the place to be – the old town would sparkle your love for history, the small sea – food restaurants would fascinate you and the night life – this is something that you have to see. The hotels offer different packages of services so once in a hotel, you have to worry about nothing – no matter whether you need a taxi or a pair of new shoes or some diving gear, your hotel manager would take care of it.
So do not miss such an opportunity – book your vacation for Croatia and enjoy the ultimate summer experience, take the chance to explore the beauty of Eastern Europe as you would see it in a way, you have never imagined it to be.

The Little Known Mount Lola near Truckee, California, USA

The Little Known Mount Lola near Truckee, California, USA

Mount Lola, the name itself conjures up visions of a great white mountain covered with snow and glaciers. However, the place is not so well known though you can find spectacular views as you trail along and reach the top of the mountain. The view itself is too nice to be kept a secret for long.

If you like loneliness with no cars honking at you, you can follow the entire trail to Mount Lola without seeing anyone. Look into cheap car rental, find yourself a vehicle and get out there. There are no lakes along the trail which starts at the end of a remote dirt road, near Truckee, California, 20 miles away down from Highway No. 89.

The trail of Mount Lola itself starts at an elevation of 6,600 feet and climbs up to 9,100 feet height in about 5.3 miles. The first four miles of the trail are quite gentle and involve a moderate climbing through a forest of red and white furs and pine forests. After you pass through some aspen groves, the trail climbs close to Cold Stream and at the halfway mark you can reach the Cold Stream Meadow, which in fact is a large meadow through which a lazy stream flows gently along. If you happen to hike the trail in spring, you will find plenty of wildflowers, bushes and view shooting stars in the night.

From here, the trail gets steeper and steeper and hemlocks and western white pines replace the fir trees as you get along the way. Here you will have to climb a north facing slope that remains covered with snow till late August.

In the end you have to pass through a hemlock forest and a ridge from where you can get an awesome view in every direction. You can view the Independence Lake and Stampede Reservoir below in the east, and above on the eastern sky, you can view the Mt. Rose. Towards the south you can view the Castle Peaks, Dicks’ Peak, the Crystal Range and Mt. Tallac. Towards the southeast you can see a little sliver of Lake Tahoe and the Freel Peak.

From the peak which has a wide, round top, you can view the White Rock Lake to the west at the base of Mouth Lola and to the north; you can see the Sierra Buttes rising upward rather dramatically from a green forest. If the day is clear, you can see the snowy slopes of Mt.Lassen about 100 miles to the north.

After spending some time up there and connecting yourself with nature at its best, you can slowly return back home by retracing your steps to the trailhead.

USA Culture – Its All About The Coffee

Coffee, you know you love it. Americans especially love coffee. The smell, the taste and even the aura it produces when being around it. It is not uncommon to travel through the United States and see a cup of coffee in citizen’s hands. You will find people drinking it at their desks at the office, while sitting in traffic in their car, or even sitting on the beach.

It is said that Europeans drink more coffee each year than Americans do, the effect that it has on them is much smaller than that of an American. It is almost an obsession with US citizens.

Driving the streets of any US city, you will find thousands of different coffee branches like Starbucks (for those who perfer the Bespoke Packaging) and Dunkin'Donuts (for those a little more down to earth). There will be lines holding up traffic in the morning so the citizens can get their cup of java before starting their day. People go to coffee drive ins on their way to work, during their lunch breaks and on their way home for the day. It is very typical to see construction workers and suited up business men in line for their daily cup of Joe.

College campuses are filled with students taking breaks in the student lounge with coffee in their hands. Let’s not start on the police officers. You ALWAYS see a cup of coffee in their vehicle. There are many different versions of the American cup of coffee. Oh no, it doesn’t just end with traditional coffee. You will find the Latte, the Cappuccino, the Expresso Macchiato, the Cafe Au Lait, the Caffe Americano and the Espresso Con Panna. You cannot drive through McDonalds or Burger King without seeing a decent size coffee list of Mochas, Carmel cappuccinos and Iced Lattes.

When all else fails, the average American will have a fresh brewed pot of Maxwell House or Folgers brewing on their kitchen counter tops. That should do the trick!

The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef

I’ve been bunjee jumping in New Zealand, white-water rafting in Canada, and skiing around chalets val d isere. But nothing compares to the thrill of diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

The Great Barrier reef is considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world – its beauty and fascination and uncomparable and the tourism opportunities it provides are quite unique since nowhere in the world would a tourist see such natural. Situated in the East of Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is widely known for the diving opportunities and the rare wildlife that can be observed – isn’t that the thrill that everyone wants to experience in his life?

The Green Island Resort is probably the best place to stay if a person is willing to visit the Reef. The five star hotel is not only comfortable enough to satisfy the preferences and the specifications of every tourist, but is also quite environmentally friendly – as we all know the Reef is quite sensitive when it comes to polution so the authorities and the hotel owners have made their best not only to provide an extremely pleasant time for the visitors, but also to ensure the stay of every visitor will not be at the cost of causing polution.

The opportunities that a person has while on the island are countless – diving is among the best activities that a person can dedicate himself to – the wild and beautiful coral world and the rare species that inhabit the area are so fascinating that hardly is there a tourist who has visited the place without diving at least several times in the warm Australian waters. Among the other activities is windsurfing – the waters, even not too deep, are constantly exposed to warm and relatively fast wind which makes the place quite comfortable for windsurfers, especially begginers.

Road Tripping

As tourism has expanded around the world, the classic American road trip has lost none of its appeal. There are a number of reasons why this classic travelling experience has endured – for those less intrepid travellers, it is perhaps the biggest adventure possible where the comforts of the Western world are always within reach. It also allows licence to roam around incredible scenery – The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, the Rockies, to name but a few examples – and still experience some of the world’s most famous cities en route. If you’re thinking of taking the trip yourself, stop by cheap car rental usa, get some wheels, and pick one of these five routes that each show a different side of the U.S.A.

1. Pacific Coast Highway

A tried and tested classic, this drive follows a single winding two-lane road down the entire West Coast. Starting in the breathtaking forests of the Pacific North-West, you’ll pass past world-famous beaches like Big Sur, and the vineyards of Northern California, before hitting the Sunshine State’s big cities: the sophisticated San Francisco, and all that the enormous sprawl of L.A. has to offer. Finish the trip in San Diego, a classy town that’s the world capital of conventions. Or head to Las Vegas, just a short desert drive away.

2. Coast to Coast

There are plenty of people (myself included) who think it really ain’t a road trip if you don’t go coast to coast. There are hundreds of ways this can be done, from the Great Northern Route along the Canadian border, or a rattle through the Deep South and the Southwestern desert country. For the true American experience, start in New York City, head through the American heartlands towards Chicago and the Midwest. Heading south-west, you’ll soon be passing through the incredible national parks of Utah, with scenery you won’t see anywhere else on Earth. Finally it’s on to 3. Route 66

Following the highways that make up the old Route 66, winding from California to the Midwest, is still a timeless trip, and now feels like a step back in time. The route winds through endless picturebook small towns and is lined with fantastic diners in the great American tradition. Start in Chicago and finish in L.A., enjoying the wide open spaces in between, with chain stores and big city life a million miles away.

4. The Road to Nowhere

A different kind of challenge here – the US-83 runs straight down the middle of the U.S., from North Dakota to Texas. Going North-South, miles from the coast, this truly is the road less travelled. Steering well clear of big towns and even famous landmarks, The Road to Nowhere, as it’s known, is almost entirely surrounded by plains, grasslands and prairies. It may lack the glamour of other corners of the country, but US-83 is a unique journey through the heart of America, right along the dividing line where East meets West.

5. The 50 State Challenge

For those who want more of a challenge than the traditional road trip, they can try and match an achievement very few Americans can match: visiting all fifty states in one trip. This site details one man’s journey, completed in just one week. For a less gruelling, more sensible trip, I’d allow a few months. A circular route staying a few hundred miles from the coasts and borders will make this task less arduous than it may first appear. The Mainland 48 challenge requires a huge amount of preparation on it’s own – of course, to complete all 50, trips to Hawaii are required – and the tickets don’t come cheap. Either challenge will feel worth the effort if you are able to join the elite club to have set foot in every corner of this enormous, illustrious nation.

USA culture: Odd and Interesting Facts

USA culture: Odd and Interesting Facts

While there are similarities between Americans and the rest of the world, there are certain items that retain a strictly American flair and knowledge to them. For those that aren’t American these things are amusing and entertaining. I’ve found a few to help the rest of the world out.

All Americans cling to their right to free speech which is in their Constitution. They all recognize certain pop culture figures such as David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, Mickey Mouse, Sesame Street, the Fonz and the Three Stooges. If they don’t believe in God then they have at least been approached by someone that wants to introduce them and have probably been told they’re going to Hell if they don’t meet with him. They think that fast food such as McDonald’s is cheap food. They know that all bathrooms have a toilet even if they don’t have a tub. They think people could solve all the world’s problems if they stop arguing and just all get along. They believe everyone should speak English and they shouldn’t bother learning another language. Schools are free from early ages through high school and then one must pay to got to college/university. If you are female then you cannot go to a beach topless. And a good investment is skin tags removal if you are moving to the suburbs, where everyone really wants to end up…

Most Americans consider the ballet, opera and plays to be something for the elite or of the upper class. They can’t name capitals of any European countries and some would be hard pressed to name the capitals of every state in America. They live in one of two camps, meaning that they believe that the church has too much power or that the government has too much power. They almost all agree that a state church would be a disaster. These are just a bit of factual fun about USA culture to get you thinking.

Amsterdam; city of sin

What a nutty place Amsterdam is. I can only assume there is nowhere else like it in the world because it is so crazy. Amsterdam has a split personality. During the day it is a serene, quiet and small city with some picturesque streets by the canals. At night, this small city transforms into an action packed party paradise. You cannot move for the bright lights, bars and open late cafes.

It might be a bit harsh, but forgivable, to say that the nightlife is Amsterdam’s only attraction, even though it isn’t. However, it is the main reason that people go, and why wouldn’t it be? For the party-goer, this city has everything. Beer seems to run from the taps, and there is also, as I’m sure the world knows, no law against smoking marijuana. During the day and especially at night, whether you be in a cafe, a small restaurant or just walking down the streets, you will become accustomed to the smell of marijuana. Is it a bad thing or isn’t it? The debate will go on forever, but Amsterdam doesn’t seem to care.

Also on the cards, if it takes your fancy, is a little bit of prostitution. I say little when there is, in fact, an entire street dedicated to it. This street and surrounding area is known as the red light district and it really does have to be seen to be believed. The street is active 24 hours a day, seven days a week it seems. People come in and out of doors all day long as if it is the most normal thing in the world. It looks the most seedy at night of course, and if you go, that is when you should visit the district, it is actually quite hilarious. Although after you leave you really want to drown yourself in cleaning supplies because you do feel obscenely filthy.

I went to Amsterdam during a trek through Europe a few years ago and I can honestly say, it was my least favourite place. Aside from the fact that there is a booming drug culture and naked women in nearly every window, the city was also full of English lager louts eager to take in everything Amsterdam has to offer, and those are not the people I want to share my holiday with.

Japanese Culture – The Untold Truth

Japanese Culture - The Untold Truth

I was recently doing an internship at a locum doctors job in Japan, which led me to realize the stark contrast of Japanese culture and how it differs greatly to what we know in the United States. Two examples of Japanese culture is bathing and bowing. These two practices in Japan differ greatly from most other places in the world.

Bathing in Japan is very important to the routine of the average person in Japan. Japanese people will scrub their hair and body thoroughly before even entering a tub. They will sit on a small stool to do this by using a faucet or shower in the same room as the tub. The typical tub in Japan is much smaller and deeper than the tubs we are used to in the U.S.. The water is typically saved for all of the family members to use instead of draining it after every use. This is done by special heaters in the tub. Sometimes, the bath water is then used to wash clothes in a washing machine. Bathing is one part of Japanese culture that differs from most other cultures.

Bowing is a huge part of Japanese culture. It is what most people recognize first with people from Japan. Bowing is taught at a very young age. It is a very important part of Japanese etiquette. A bow is done with a straight back and hands at their sides for men. For women, the back is still straight, but instead of hands at the side they are clasped in the lap. There are three different degrees of bowing. The deepest bows are for formal occasions. For informal bows, they do not bow as deeply. Bowing is a huge part of Japanese culture.

When it comes to Japanese culture, there are many aspects that differ from most other parts of the world. Two aspects of this culture that stand out are their bathing habits and their bowing. These two parts of Japanese culture set them apart from the West.
